Melbourne hosts Australia's first Formula 1 Sprint Race at the 2027 Australian Grand Prix.
The Australian Grand Prix returns to Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne from Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 April 2027. The 2027 race brings Australia's first Formula 1 Sprint Race to the city. The current on-track schedule (opens in a new tab) starts Friday 2 April with Practice 1 and Sprint Qualifying, continues with the Sprint and Grand Prix Qualifying on Saturday, and ends with Sunday's Grand Prix. Session times are still to be confirmed; the organizer says it will publish the full timetable closer to the event. The Australian Grand Prix Corporation confirmed the dates and Sprint format (opens in a new tab).
What the 2027 Sprint weekend adds
The Sprint weekend gives Saturday two separate competitive sessions. Friday's Sprint Qualifying sets the starting order for Saturday's Sprint, which awards championship points. It does not set the grid for Sunday's Grand Prix; Saturday's later Grand Prix Qualifying does. The organizer's Sprint weekend explainer (opens in a new tab) covers the format.
Friday includes Sprint Qualifying; Saturday has the Sprint and Grand Prix Qualifying. Check the schedule before choosing a day ticket or planning your arrival, since session times are not published yet.
Albert Park Circuit and Melbourne
Albert Park is a temporary circuit on existing roads through the park. Formula 1's Australian Grand Prix profile (opens in a new tab) lists its length at 5.278 kilometres and dates Melbourne's first Grand Prix to 1996. The organizer's transport guide lists tram and rail links between the circuit and central stations.
Thursday 1 April is part of the official event dates, while the published on-track program currently starts Friday 2 April. Use the event schedule and your ticket details to confirm which gates and sessions apply to your visit.
Tickets for the Australian Grand Prix
The official ticket hub (opens in a new tab) links to Park Pass, Grandstand and Hospitality options. General public sales began on 6 October 2026, and the organizer's ticketing FAQ (opens in a new tab) says event tickets must be bought online through Ticketmaster. There will be no gate sales. Check the ticket hub for current availability, day access and conditions before making plans.
The FAQ also confirms that 2027 Park Pass and Grandstand tickets include public transport to and from the event. Keep the ticket accessible on your phone and review its entry gate before travelling, since the circuit has several entrances around the park.
Park Pass and Grandstand mobile tickets are available to download after purchase. The ticketing FAQ (opens in a new tab) says screenshots are not accepted at entry; show the ticket in the Ticketmaster app, mobile site or phone wallet. Check that you can open it before leaving for the circuit.
Getting to Albert Park
The organizer recommends public transport; no public parking is available at Albert Park Circuit. Additional event tram services connect the circuit with Flinders Street, Southern Cross, Flagstaff and Anzac stations. From Anzac Station's Exit 3, Gate 5 is an eight-minute walk (500 metres). Valid event tickets include tram and train travel between the city and Albert Park on event days. Check the getting here page (opens in a new tab) for current routes, gate access and service updates.
Melbourne Airport is 29 kilometres from the circuit; the organizer lists SkyBus Express to Southern Cross Station. Avalon Airport is 59 kilometres away and has the SkyBus Avalon City Express to central Melbourne. From the city, follow the event transport guidance for the last leg to your gate. For accommodation, compare Melbourne stays (opens in a new tab) near Flinders Street, Southern Cross, Flagstaff or Anzac Station, where the organizer lists event connections.
Accessibility and day planning
The Australian Grand Prix Corporation's 2027 accessibility information (opens in a new tab) lists an Accessible Services Office inside Gate 1. Staff there can answer access questions and help with shuttle bus bookings and wheelchair hire. The page also notes that applications for limited accessible parking open on 1 February 2027. Review the current guidance before choosing an entrance or transport option, as the circuit map and service details may be updated before the event.
The accessibility page lists low-floor trams on Route 96, with level-access stops at some locations, and lift access at Anzac Station. Travellers Aid support at Gates 1, 5 and 10 can help with wheelchair and buggy transfers from nearby tram stops and Anzac Station to event entrances. Check the current page when planning an accessible journey.
Allow time to walk from the station. Review the organizer's schedule and transport page again before travelling, since both can change.
